What’s a Hellbender?
The Hellbender – cryptobranchus alleganiensis – is North America’s only giant salamander. It is native to the waterways in the hills of the eastern United States, and is the official state amphibian of Pennsylvania, where our company is headquartered. Hellbenders as a species are listed as near threatened; they live only in clean and flowing rocky streams, breathing through their skin. In this way, they are an indicator of unpolluted water.
Why Choose 'Hellbender'?
The Hellbender salamander is our namesake for several reasons. As an indicator of unpolluted waters, the Hellbender salamander embodies many of our company’s core tenets:
A Healthy Work Environment is Better for Everyone

We Take our Impact Seriously
Electronics manufacturing is traditionally an off-shored polluting industry driven to minimize costs to customers at the expense of the manufacturer’s workers, communities and the environment. Hellbender re-envisions this dynamic.
As a certified benefit corporation, we commit to quarterly charitable giving for watershed conservation among other local causes. We are 100% carbon neutral, and employ industrial waste recycling so none of our process metals contaminate waterways. Our company was built around these ideals to prove that the manufacturing industry can run on a modern model of sustainability.

Hellbender is an Economic Indicator
Just like the Hellbender salamander is an indicator of healthy waters, Hellbender Inc. is an indicator of a healthy regional and national economy.
Hellbender Inc. is based in Pittsburgh, PA, a region with a deep history of steel manufacturing that moved off-shore at great cost to regional communities. Hellbender Inc. hopes to be the indicator that Western Pennsylvania and the US itself can lead the next generation of technology and manufacturing.
